Howdy everyone,
when I first heard that MilViz was working on a Boeing 737-200 I wasn't really intrested - but after finding out what the market had to offer (Captain Sim 737 and JustFlight/BBS 737) I decided to give this developer a chance. The 737 is the first airliner by MilViz. A couple of months ago they made the product available as a pre-oder, but limited to 75 buyers. I bought it and yesterday night it got released. It will be publically released Monday Evening (that is Quebec-Time, Canada).
After trying the CaptainSim 737 and see it fail in so many ways - I was hopping that this bird would do it right... and............ IT DOES!!!!!
So join me for a small testflight with FirstAir between Edmonton and Calgary
Our aircraft sitting at the terminal, catering is just aboard
Entering the cockpit we can dim the instruments/panellights. You can dim them very low or turn them up to an nearly extreme brightness - even at day, they won't go out just when FSX switches to day-mode like on some aircraft.
On the right of this screenshot you can see the EPR computer - a full PSDC isn't included in this product, but a EPR computer calculates your MAX EPRs for TO, CLB, CRZ, GA und CONT
Now comes the intresting part - for V-Speed Calculations I need some performance data... this product comes with a full 860 page Boeing 737-200 FCOM!!!
Time for the Pushback & Startup. One thing different from other 737's is that here you have to manually ARM the Startvalve (switch with guard right of the start-switches)

Starting our Engines, Fuel is turned on at 22% N2 - the spool-up is very smooth
As we taxi for take-off we extend our Landing Lights - it's nice to see that those small details are all modeled correctly.
With the correct TO EPR set we rotate the aircraft smoothly at the calculated V-Speed and lift of into a early morning sky. The handflying is just awesome, very smooth, very well done, very beliveable
Now comes the most intresting part: Turning on the Sperry 77 Autopilot - *click* - and it works just wonderful. CWS works as it should, even better than on the old TinMouse II in FS9. CaptainSim look here, this is how it's done!
On this flight I will just use radio navigation - you can also equip the aircraft with an FMS and Sperry 177 Autopilot which works great as well.
I simply love the level of detail put into this bird.
Cruising towards CYYC - the EPRs provided by the computer are good - only the max CRZ EPR brings us close to the barber fence - but after all, these are MAX values
Descending towards Calgary, we have to slow done with the speedbrakes
And this little gauge (to the left of N°1 EGT) will display our approach Vref for the set Flapsetting - in our case Flaps 30°
The model is really beautyful
Turning towards the ILS RWY34 - I switch the Autopilot off for some handflying. This bird really likes handflying and is a pleasure to fly. The only thing I miss is the clacking of the trim-wheel.

Short final
Touchdown - Autobreaks on Minimum kick in smoothly and reverse is deploying - I really love those clamshell-reversers.
All in all a very pleasant flight and this seems - after a long time - THE 737-200 FSX was waiting for. The soundset is also very nicely done!
Few things that came to my attention:
-Very high thrust is required to get the bird moving on the ground, but once rolling, everything is OK. Then again, it is as per real life - at 1.4 EPR the aircraft start moving!
-Reverser Unlock lights illuminate, but not "Reversers Operating" even though they are operating
I really enjoy flying this bird - and I can only recommend it to every classical lover out there!

Here's now a more extensive flight report as well as a bit more detailed review.
This flight will utilize a Boeing 737-200 Combi (first part of the Airplane used for freight, rear part for passengers). We'll fly with Alaskan Airlines from Anchroage Intl. (PANC) to Juneau (PAJN).
Our take-off weight will be around 113.000 LBS and this is also the basis for our TO-Speed-Calculation. This Aircraft is equipped with a Sperry 177 Autopilot (the addon comes with both, the classic Sperry 77 that mainly utilizes CWS and the newer Sperry 177 that also features autothrust)
First we program the FMS - it's a UNS-1 FMS System, which was first used in 1982 - so a very basic, but yet cabable FMS. After the FMS boot (you have to turn it on first) and initialization, we start entering our flightplan. You enter your depature aerodrome and all waypoints after that - one by one. Alternatively you can switch to the "LIST" function, select "AIRWAYS" and the FMS will show you all airways available from the selected waypoint. Then you can select the desired airway and to which waypoint you should fly it.

Next we use the Boeing 737-200 FCOM (Flight Crew Operations Manual - 860 pages) that is supplied with this addon and search for the Take-Off Performance Tables. We enter with our weight 113.000 LBS -> so 110.000 LBS and our outside air temperature (64°F) to determine speeds for V1, Vr and V2. The FMS can also calculate Vspeeds but they are higher than in the table and off by about 15kts, so I enter the tabulated values manually.

As all our preparations are done, we start the pushback. The APU is already running and supplying bleed-air for the engine starter.

One thing different from newer 737s is that you have to arm the start-valves before engaging the starter. This is done by selecting the start-valve arm switch into the "ON" position.

As there is plenty of runway available, flaps are extended to 5° for take-off
An EPR computer has computed our TO-EPR values. EPR is mostly found on older turbofan & turbojet engines with a low bypass ratio. EPR is the Engine Pressure Ratio - a ratio between the inlet and outlet air pressure, which is a direct way to measure and gauge engine thrust. EPR is temperature dependent and a onboard computer measures OAT and calculates your MAX EPRs for TO, CLB, CRZ, CONT and GA.
Taxiing towards RWY 25R - the tubes extending from the engines are part of the "Gravel Kit", which makes this aircraft capable of flying into unpaved airfields. When activated, the tubes act as jets ejecting bleed air in order to create an "air fence" and deflect any dirt that might get kicked up and sucked into the engine

As Take-Off Power is set, the EPR / engines behave very realistic. Up to 50% throttle (ca. 1.5 EPR), the engine slowly spool up and thereafter the curve nearly becomes exponentially with the EPR now increasing very fast up to about 2.0 EPR before advancing slowly again... TO-EPR is set at 2.10 EPR and the acceleration is smooth and airspeed is rising slowly, then steadly - at the calculated Vspeed I gently pull the nose up and... what a feeling. The aircraft gracefully lifts of the runway - one of the most awesome FDEs I've seen (or felt) for FSX. It is really a pleasure to handfly!!!

Retracting the landing gear - the big plate on the nose gear is part of the Gravel-Kit and is a gravel deflector
Just after take-off the gear is retracted and the aircraft is flown at V2+20 up to 1000ft AGL, where thrust is retarded to climb power, flaps are retracted and the autopilot is put into CWS. CWS = Control Wheel Steering , you "command" the aircraft with the yoke to a certain attitude (pitch and/or roll) and the aircraft will maintain that attitude. CWS works perfectly on both modeled autopilots. Also the animations of flap travel and gear are very very smooth!
Autopilot is engaged - the FMS button is set to FMS (You can choose OFF, then you can use the autopilot with conventional radio navigation, GPS to couple the autopilot to the standard FSX GPS and FMS so the autopilot will follow the FMS Flightplan) and LNAV is engaged. The autopilot also has autothrust, but it can only hold speeds, not EPR values - hence the EPR and LVL CHG options are disabled.

Carrying those old JT8D engines over the alskan sky, they do trail alot of smoke when used at high power setting. Nice and dramatic effect, especially on slow/heavy take-offs
The performance pages of the FMS give us quite a detailed look on what's going on with everything aboard
No PFD or ND, no EICAS, no FADEC - just pure flying. The flight deck is really nice and you feel right at home, with no frame-rate impact. The textures aren't high-ress like you might be used from CaptainSim or PMDG and switches are also sometimes very low-poly, but it all fits and gives you a great feeling of beeing there.

FMS as well as a cockpit gauge will calculate your landing Vref according to the weight of the aircraft - nice feature. So now it's time to configure the speedbugs for the approach. Landing Vref is 128 kts and with a wind-correction I obtain a traget speed (Vtgt) of 130 kts. The speedbugs are fine-tuneable by 2kts
Descending down into Juneau. We will perform an approach into RWY08, which uses an off-set localizer (like Innsbruck). Soon I will decouple the FMS from the autopilot and use the VOR LOC mode to track the LOC while slowing the aircraft down.
Gear down and Flaps at 15°
Flaps down to 30° - I love those wingviews. Again, like in the VC, the "feeling" is just right. I still remember me as a child, travelling on the 732 and seeing those wings and the engine pod...
Passing the localizer antenna we continue manually for the final - smooth handflying and very nice thrust behaviour. This aircraft flies absolutely stunning!!!
Slowing down - just after touchdown reverse kick in - speedbrakes are up and autobreaks are on minimum. The deacceleration-rate is quite believeable

Vacating the runway and time to start the APU. The FMS gives a small flight report - nice!
After the landing it's time to clean up the aircraft. As I already mentioned - it's a beauty to handfly. On taxiing the engines require some amount of thrust to get it rolling (about 1.4 EPR) but once it rolls, it keeps on rolling with around 1.2 EPR. Several people already asked for this behaviour in the developers support forum, but it doesn't really bother me.

On the block, time for the unloading/deboarding. You can see the cargo door in the bow-section of the aircraft, while the passengers are located in the aft

Cockpit overview
With this flight I had the oppertunity to test this bird into more detail and I have to say: I really like what I see. If I was to compare it directly to the other 737-200s on the market (for FSX) - this would be the winner.
Graphically it's way better than JustFlights/BBS 737 and the model feels right everywhere. Maybe CaptainSims 737-200Adv. is more detailed and high-res, but this model sure can compete.
The VC is very nicely done with nearly no FPS impact and again it just feels right.
The FDE is awesome. The airplane behaves like it should - this is how I imagine a 737-200 flies (the biggest airplane I've flown myself was a twin-engine Piper Seneca II). Flying it by hand is spot on and even the thrust is nice to manage. Using the autopilot, either the Sperry 77 with mainly CWS or the Sperry 177 with some more advanced features gave no big problems. The plane is kind of slow in intercepting radials/localizer, but it's not doing terrible with it.
Systemwise it is very well done. There are a few minor bugs that are discussed in the support forum right now: Sometimes the CSD temperatures just go haywire, but what does a normal simmer care or know about the CSD? (No, it's not the christopher street day - it's the Constant Speed Drive, a drive unit connected to the generators to keep them spinning at a constant speed and thereby maintain a constant output frequency)
The Pitot-Heat switches somehow do not really turn on the pitot heat, you have to use the standart FSX key command - but that's the only real bug that I found.
I didn't really check how detailed the pressurization system is done - but those are all minor things that don't reduce the flyability and useability of this bird.
Soundwise it's also really good. The cockpitsound are just like you are used to from a Boeing 737 flightdeck and the clicks of the switches all fit in place. There's a nice rumble when you retract/lower the gear and the engine sounds are music to my ears. Only one thing is missing: The typical clacker of the trim wheel.
All in all a very beautyful aircraft - the best 737-200 for FSX and a must-have for retrofans!

il y a des soucis, mais l'équipe est réactive et communique plutôt bien et que dire, pour une première dans les liners ils ont plutôt bien assuré.
0 voir si ils vont assurer avec la correction des bugs et terminer ce qu'ils ont commencé.
coté simulation, on a qqch qui s'approche du QW BAe-146 bref, un bon midcore exploitable avec une fluidité sans reproche, et une ambiance intérieure agréable mais à parfaire

En effet cet oiseaux est super, j'espère qu'on pourra bientôt dire qu'il s'agit du meilleur 37 classic pour fsx !
Juste quelques petits truc comme sa à chaud qui m’embêtent un peu avec cet appareil .... : Je voudrais savoir si c'est pareil chez vous .
-Pour rouler, j'ai bien besoins de mettre 45% de la puissance pour qu'il se mette en mouvement
-J'ai bien suivit, dans l'ordre, les checks pour le démarrage, malgré cela même après avoir enclencher les deux GEN moteur tournant et tout le tintouin, j'ai toujours le FLT CONT, APU, ELEC et FUEL allumés sur le MASTER CAUTION !
-Au démarrage puis pdt tout le temps que les moteurs tournent, j'ai le EGT sur le rouge à 650° ^^
-L'indicateur fuel temp parait cassé, il indique que 0°C tout le temps ...
Voilà pour l'instant c'est tout, c'est globalement bien mais je trouve ces détails dommage ! (reprenez moi si c'est en fait normal, je ne suis pas pro 737-200)

- il y a un soucis avec le système électrique --> çà va etre corrigé

- utilise tu une metéo tiers? perso j'ai déjà du allumer les réchauffe du fuel qui arrivait à -40
- le réchauffe du pitot ne marche pas via le bouton du VC, il faut passer par l'attribution de touche de FSX --> çà va etre corrigé
plus d'autres bugs qui vont etre corrigé aussi dans le SP à venir
mais c'est déjà une super machine pour les vols dans le grand nord ou dans le Pacific Aloha Air Cargo et les scènes FSDT

Il a beaucoup de potentiel, mais un petit coté pas fini qui est un peu irritant, en particulier au niveau des deux PA - le 77 capture automatiquement l'altitude et le 177 qui a deux fonctions pour l'instant bloquées, car il est codé sur base du PA par défaut (EPR et FlCH). Important à savoir avant achat.
J'aurais du attendre le SP, mais j'adore ces vieux coucous, j'espère qu'ils corrigeront tout correctement....

à vrais dire il y a déjà eu un petit hotfix qui ne réglait pas grand chose et un patch pour ajouter le nouveau système d'éclairage.
Le SP qui corrigera tout les gros problèmes est en chantier.
